Fill in a PDF form

Open a fillable PDF and complete its fields in a list beside a preview of the page. Each field is named by the words the form gives it, such as Full name, with its internal name beside (or by its internal name when the form gives no words), and numbered as its box on the page, so you see which box you are filling. Tick Flatten to burn the answers into the page: the form fields disappear and the answers become ordinary page content, so they cannot be changed by re-filling the form.

Fill PDF form

or drop it here. The file stays on this device.

How it works

  1. Choose or drop a fillable PDF.
  2. Complete the fields listed beside the page preview, page by page from the top down and left to right. Each field shows the words the form gives it and its internal name; focusing a field shows its page with its box marked, and clicking or tapping a box on the preview goes to its field.
  3. Optionally tick Flatten, then press Save filled form and download.

Questions

The tool says no fields were found.

The PDF has no fillable fields, which is common for scanned forms. Use the Sign PDF tool to place a signature image.

Can I type Chinese or other non-Latin text?

Yes, Chinese, Japanese and Korean: a value the built-in Helvetica cannot write is drawn with this site's own Noto Sans CJK (Simplified Chinese design; Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters and Cyrillic are in it too), embedded as a small subset, and it stays when you flatten. Common Chinese (the 7,445 characters of GB2312, its 6,763 Chinese characters and 682 symbols such as ①, ℃ and →, with Chinese punctuation and full-width forms) needs only the font's common-Chinese part, 2.3 MB once; any other Chinese, Japanese or Korean character loads the whole font instead, about 22 MB once. Either is loaded from this site only when such text is first written, and your file and text stay on this device. A value with Thai, Arabic, emoji or another script that neither font has is skipped: the result names the field, which holds its earlier value. So is a value that mixes a character only Noto Sans CJK has (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or a letter such as Ā) with Š, š, Ž, ž, Ÿ, ˆ or ˜, which only Helvetica has, because a field is written in one font.

XFA forms

XFA (dynamic) forms are not supported. Only the standard fields can be filled and the XFA layer is removed from the output so other viewers show the standard fields.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The page loads a PDF engine into your browser and every operation runs on your device. You can check this yourself in the browser's network panel: after the page has loaded there are no upload requests. Closing the tab discards the file.

Do I need an account or to pay?

No. These basic tools are free, have no page or file limits set by us, and never add a watermark. The practical limit is your device's memory.

What about password-protected PDFs?

Encrypted PDFs cannot be processed here. Remove the password first, then use this tool.

What does this page keep in my browser?

Nothing you open or type. While the tab is open, the tool pages keep a short list of the steps taken in it, in the tab's session storage: the step (page opened, started, succeeded, first success, used again or failed), the tool's name, the time, how many files were used and, for a failure, an error code; never a file name, the contents of a file or your text. It holds at most the latest 200 steps, and the browser deletes it when the tab closes. The page never sends it. Where a Report a problem button is shown, you can attach the last 20 steps to your report; nothing is attached unless you tick that box. In local storage the page keeps only choices you made: a Light or Dark theme until you choose System again, the language you picked with the EN / 中文 switch if it differs from your browser's language, and this tool in your recently used list if you switched that list on at the tools page.
