Send files with a link that expires

Choose files or a folder, get one link, share it. The recipient needs no account. Unlike the Matrix Tools, this service uploads your files to Matrix storage, keeps them for the time you choose, then deletes them.

Send files

How it works

  1. Choose files or a folder. You can do this before signing in: the files stay on the page while you sign in (or create a free account) and verify your e-mail address in a new tab.
  2. Pick how long the link lasts (1 or 3 days; up to 7 days with Transfer Plus), optionally set a password, press Send.
  3. The files upload straight to Matrix storage and are scanned. Copy the link when it is ready.
  4. The recipient opens the link, enters the password if you set one, and downloads each file or everything as a ZIP.

Questions

Where are my files stored, and who can see them?

In Matrix storage (Cloudflare R2, private bucket) for the 1, 3 or 7 days you chose (7 days with Transfer Plus), then they are deleted within an hour. Anyone with the link, and the password if you set one, can download them until then. The service reads them only by machine: to check each file against the fingerprint your browser computed, to scan it for viruses and to build the ZIP download.

What happens if a file fails the virus scan?

The whole transfer is blocked: nothing can be downloaded, the uploaded files are deleted within the hour, and the page tells you which file was flagged. The same happens when a file's uploaded bytes do not match the fingerprint your browser computed. If the scanner could not check a file and nothing was flagged, the page says so instead; that is not a finding against your files. Your allowance is not charged either way. The scanner cannot look inside a password-protected archive: it passes as one file, so its contents are not scanned.

What if the connection drops or I close the page during the upload?

If the connection drops, the upload pauses and continues on its own when the connection is back; you can also pause and resume it yourself. If you close or reload the page, open it again (or My transfers, Continue upload) and choose the same files: each file is checked against the fingerprint recorded when the upload started, a different file is refused, and only the parts not yet stored are sent. An unfinished upload can be continued for two days after it started (storage then discards the unfinished parts), and never after its link expires.

Can I withdraw a link?

Yes. Under My transfers, press Revoke. New download links stop at once; a link handed out in the two minutes before can still start a download, a download already running is not cut off, and the files are deleted within the hour.

What are the limits?

Free plan: 100 files and 2 GB per transfer, 5 GB of sending per calendar month, expiry of 1 or 3 days. Transfer Plus (US$19.90 a year or US$2.99 a month): 20 GB per transfer with no single file above 4 GB (the virus scanner's limit), 100 GB of sending per calendar month, expiry of 1, 3 or 7 days. See your subscription. GB here means 1,000,000,000 bytes.

Is the transfer end-to-end encrypted?

No. Files travel over HTTPS and are stored encrypted at rest, but the service scans them for viruses, which means it can read them. Encrypt files yourself before sending if that matters, for example with the browser-only Encrypt file tool.
