Your API keys

Use an API Key to run supported Matrix Tools or send and read Matrix Transfers from your code. Choose the permissions each Key needs: tools.read lists operations, tools.run runs them, and Transfer has separate read, send and revoke permissions. The developer guides explain each API’s limits. To use ChatGPT or Claude, connect your assistant instead of copying a Key.

Questions

Where is the secret kept?

Only in your own secret store. Matrix keeps a hash of it, which cannot be turned back into the secret, and shows the secret once, right after you create or rotate the Key. If it is lost, rotate the Key: that issues a new secret and lets the old one work for a chosen time, or stops it at once.

What does a Key cost?

Nothing by itself. Calls count against the same monthly allowance and plan limits as the browser pages, so a Key on the Free plan sends what the Free plan allows.

What is not here yet?

Projects, a separate test environment and an API wallet with its own balance. Keys for the Transfer API and connections for ChatGPT and Claude (the AI assistants card, and how to connect one) are here; the rest follows in later steps.
